I feel like reading anything by Penny Reid teaches me something new each and every time. Who knew that the lesson I’d learn from this book is to stop paying attention to other readers and reviewers and getting myself all worried and anxious about being let down. Not to say that I saw a lot of negativity around this book, but sometimes all it takes is one person to start a chain reaction of dread. For five years now I’ve been preparing myself for the moment where I feel let down by something Penny writes, I’m happy to report that today was NOT that day!

(Note: I have to admit that I haven’t read anything from LH Cosway outside of this collaborative series but I question this decision because I clearly haven’t been let down by her writing either! I vow to read a solo project of hers this summer!)

When I started this book, I honestly thought it was going to be Will’s kink that I would struggle with. Instead of struggling with any particular part of this story, I found myself challenged by the calm and collected nature of the characters. I mean, clearly Josey is not exactly the picture of put together. She’s awkward and socially inept but in the strangest of ways she’s also the most accepting and honest about her quirks than most graceful and confident people seem to be. Obviously Will is fighting a battle within himself about his proclivities and his need for a clear and concise plans and expectations but he still manages to maintain a very controlled disposition on the outside. Nothing seems to rile him up. Which I suppose comes across more as him being emotionless, but I can’t help but find myself in awe of the way he never felt ashamed of who he was or what he liked and how he owned up to the truth without hesitation. That’s also not to say that it wasn’t pretty freaking awesome to watch him lose his cool and to let his emotions shine through when it really mattered the most.

It probably wouldn’t be a surprise to anyone to hear me say that this book is my favorite in the series because my favorite always seems to be the last one I read. It’s just that this book had me feeling all kinds of ways. This story wasn’t one who had me swooning over the hero or adoring the heroine. At times I was annoyed by them and as much as I loved their quirky and unique sides, I could also see myself getting very tired of them in real life. There was a serious lack of communication and that openness and honesty I praised before didn’t always make an appearance, especially when it would’ve been most helpful. But the development of the characters and their relationship felt real. The friendships between the main characters and secondary characters was spot on. Particularly Bryan and Will’s. And, let’s be real, this book was sexy AF.

If you enjoyed the rest of the books in this series, there isn’t a doubt in my mind that you’ll love this book too. And you’ll be just as sad as I am to know that the series has come to an end.

The Varlet and the Voyeur by L.H. Cosway & Penny Reid is the fourth co-written masterpiece in their Rugby series. A story of quirks and of kinks.

Josey Kavanaugh is the quirky girl, inappropriate comments, clumsy, blathering, she has said it all and put her foot in her mouth more times than she dare count. William Moore is the voyeuristic rugby player that gets caught up in a press scandal when a couple he "watches" spills the beans and begins a Will Moore smear campaign. The solution that comes out of the woodwork with the help of his teammates is for him to have a roommate to monitor his behavior and make sure he isn't tempted to go in search of another couple to watch.

The thing is, as with all of the books in this absolutely fabulous series, people are not just one or two dimensions. Josey is more than the clumsy girl with verbal diarrhea and Will is far more than a voyeur. His kink stems from his need to never hurt a woman by leading her on and, leading her on, to him, means having sex. He chooses not to, and gets off by watching people be intimate. Josey finds a safe place to be herself with Will who appreciates her odd humor and together they both cultivate the better parts of each other.

I absolutely LOVED this story - Will's kink was kinky, especially hen he translated all that energy and into the bedroom with Josey! Seeing Josey find ehr place was liberating. Enjoy!
Gah! I have to say out the books in the series this was my favorite. While it wasn't perfect Josey and Will together are squeezable adorableness. So much funny moments and thoughtful ones too. I really found this story to be fantastically done with flawed realistic characters.

I've always been curious about quiet and perhaps elusive Will, he's the silent waters deep type well in this case has more than meets the eye. Josey and Will have their own peculiarities and quirks about them but I don't find Will off putting rather makes them interesting characters. I will say that I wasn't huge fan of Josey at first, she was not someone I would gravitate to but she did grow on me eventually. She won't be everyone's cup of tea and like Will's situation people will judge. What is different can always be misconstrued, something that's not the norm people will have a say.

I can actually relate to Will and his shyness from some people not all. I like his kind and understated charm, quiet strength not big on the whole celebrity and honesty. It's a rare kind to see that kind person these days, so Will is special and swoon worthy for sure. Josey and Will are total opposites but they get on well and understand the other with ease. No judgement and always wanting to good for the other. I liked that they accepted the other for quirks and how they thought.

These two though! My anxious heart soared and dropped with them their own see saw could drive me batty. Sometimes I felt unsure about it all but somehow I got pulled in again. Their unconventional setup got them in a pickle and well to get out of said pickle there's a lot of confusion and stuff that had to happen. At times I felt conflicted on how it was resolved, I wanted some character growth in Josey but ultimately it all came together. I wish we got to know more of Will's roots and the whole drama that started it all what happened after, it felt like it needed to know more but it tied up neatly.

All in all though I enjoyed Josey and Will a lot. They had me goofy smiling and laughing, some frowning but chemistry and banter made up for those. I loved all the rugby team played a role in this, especially Bryan and Ronan. It's definitely bittersweet that this is the end of a terrific series. I will miss the rugby team, the writing made this series seamlessly better. Can't wait to see what's next for this writing duo!
