The Cat Who Moved a Mountain Lilian Jackson Braun Books

Okay, this author kind of sucks at mystery, and her characters are obvious and flat, and everything is really dated, and small town stuff is both romanticized and oversimplified, but she's also created this lovely and sort of silly world that a reader can take a little mental vacation into, so it's great. The stories have continuity and not too many sloppy mistakes. If you are looking for erudite literature, this ain't it. If you're looking for period fun, here it is!

The Cat Who Moved a Mountain Lilian Jackson Braun Books Reviews

This is probably my favorite The Cat Who... book. Not sure why, but I loved it.
What a fun read! Nice to read a book with good English and full of thoughts and ideas by the main characters. Same for all "The cat Who" books I have read.
I haven’t read the book—it’s a gift for someone who is making her way through the whole series—but I was disappointed that the cover was bent. If it were for me, it wouldn’t matter, but I hate to give a damaged book as a present!
I love all The Cat Who books. I miss Lilian Jackson Braun so much. RIP. I wish someone would finish her last book she was writing. I wish someone would write some more books of Qwill, KoKo and YumYum. They wouldn't be as good but at least the stories could continue.
I love this series, but this particular book was quite dark and somber in nature. Qwill leaves town, so our favorite characters are missing. He runs into one disaster after another, including rain, which is depressing. Even yum yum suffers from anxiety. I kept reading because I wouldn't want to miss anything, but I certainly won't read it again.
I live in a retirement community in Florida where the rich retirees from up North often snub the locals. Among other things, the complain about a local factory that is the only source of good employment for the impoverished natives. Of all the Jackson's books, this was particularly meaningful to me. Q arrives in a community were locals and newcomers live in a state of belligerence. This is perhaps the least campy of the series, but I don't think it is dark as another reviewer suggested.
In this installment Quill decides to take a vacation to contemplate his future. He chooses the Potato mountains and rents at the very top of big Potato which is being developed at an alarming pace. The locals are mourning the incarceration of one of their own for murder. The victim emerges as a corrupt businessman everyone hated. Quill investigates with the help of the cats and it soon emerges that the "murderer" had been railroaded. Quill is determined to right this wrong. There's plenty of action and some hair-raising scenes that you're sure to enjoy. This is a most enjoyable mystery!
